Marco Frezzato graduated in cello in 1993, at the “Boito” Conservatory in Parma. In 1991, while still very young, he began a long period of specialization under the guidance of Mario Brunello; he subsequently studied with Antonio Meneses, Amedeo Baldovino, Franco Rossi and Maureen Jones.
He owes his chamber music training to the Trio di Trieste, with whom he studied at the Fiesole School of Music, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena (Diploma of Merit in ’95) and at the International School of Chamber Music in Duino.
He approached performance practice on original instruments at a very young age, deepening his interest in the study of ancient music, under the guidance of Enrico Contini and Mauro Valli. He also specialized with Gaetano Nasillo, at the Scuola Civica in Milan, obtaining a diploma in baroque and classical cello with top marks and honors.
From 1993 to 1997 he carried out an intense activity as a cellist of the Schumann Trio, with which he won the first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition “Città di Pinerolo”, performing in important Italian and foreign festivals. He also took part in various chamber music projects from piano duo to string octet, also tackling twentieth-century repertoire and contemporary music.
Since 2002 he has held the role of first cello of the Ensemble Accademia Bizantina, carrying out an intense activity both in concert, in Italy and abroad, and in recording, for labels such as Decca, Opus 111, Amadeus, Arts.
He is a founding member of the Alea Ensemble, specializing in the repertoire for trio and string quartet of the classical and romantic periods on original instruments.
