Nicola Brovelli was born in Busto Arsizio, Italy in 1986. He studied cello with Silvio Righini at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan and graduated privately from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan in 2007. He has attended masterclasses with Karine Georgian, Giulio Franzetti, Alfons Kontarsky, Piernarciso Masi, Milos Mlejnik, Giovanni Gnocchi, Enrico Bronzi, Barthold and Sigiswald Kuijken. Always interested in research on performance practice in various historical periods, in 2007 he began studying baroque cello at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan in the class of Gaetano Nasillo, graduating with top marks and honors in June 2011. In 2013 he attended a stage of romantic chamber music on historical instruments at the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique (JOA) in Saintes (F). Thanks to these study experiences he has come to deepen the historical performance practice of the cello through the centuries, from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century.
During his career he has had the opportunity to play in important concert halls and has collaborated with important groups present on the international scene. He has recorded for Brilliant, Concerto, Decca, Dynamic, Sony, Tactus, Glossa, Arcana and CPO.
He has taught at the summer courses of ancient music in Pamparato.
